4th Annual Phon-a-thon March 10th & March 11th, 2010

Plans are underway for our 4th annual phon-a-thon. Spaulding will host up to 20 volunteers on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings (6:00-8:30pm) at the Manchester branch of Coldwell Banker. Volunteering that night are not only parents, but also include our own DECA students. Volunteers will be phoning our community to raise funds for grants that support our schools.

Spaulding's "Night of Stars" A Shining Event!

The Spaulding Education Fund's "A Night of Stars" Talent Show was a great success! On October 18th 2009, every seat was sold in the beautiful new Manchester Essex Middle High School Auditorium which showcased some of our community’s greatest talent.

About this event, Henri Bichet of the Spaulding Education Fund said, "We wanted to do something that would not only raise funds for the elementary, middle and high school, but would also be fun and give our tremendous talent here a stage to perform." That is exactly what this event succeeded in doing.

"There was such a tremendous variety of amazing performers," said Alison Daley, also of the Spaulding Education Fund. The show included several solo and duet singing performances, dancers from hip hop to Irish step dancing, and many ensembles. One ensemble was a group of wonderful Manchester Essex teachers and administrative staff who "belted out" a fantastic original score "Thank You, Spaulding" (to the tune of Mame).

Another great treat, a performance by the country's oldest a cappella group, the incredible "Harvard Krokodiloes". A big thank you goes to Manchester parent, Margaret Corrigan, for her instrumental work in bringing the "Kroks" to Manchester. The show's fantastic Master of Ceremonies was Manchester Essex High School teacher and coach, Rob Bilsbury – who kept the audience laughing and the show on course. "A Night of Stars" was great fun for all that attended.

Whether you were a performer, purchased a ticket, or were one of the many generous corporate sponsors – your contribution to this show is far-reaching. Money raised at this event was well over $18,000 and will go toward funding exciting and important initiatives in our schools. Through your donations, Spaulding funds grants that support the curriculum in every subject – math, art, science, music, technology, reading, writing, foreign languages, and physical education. Students in every school, in both communities, benefit from your support.

Thank you to show producers Will Hunt and Janice Fullman, and to Karen Strating. Also to High School senior, Matt Hoyle, who did an incredible job managing all of the audio and sound production, and was able to create, at the last minute, a live video feed into the gymnasium for those who wanted to watch the show and could not buy a ticket. High School student and stage manager, Jenny Hersey, did a super job. A big thank you to Spaulding volunteers who sold tickets and to Priscilla Duda and Rachel Fitzgibbon for managing this great task! Thanks to Rachel for creating the fantastic logo, poster and program design, too! Thank you to Alison Daley for managing our patron and corporate sponsor reception. Many thanks to our teachers and school committee members who provided informative and interesting tours of the new school for this reception, as well.

A final thank you to all that performed at this great event, and to those who came to watch "A Night of Stars".
